Every since I was a little girl I dreamed that one day there would be a Black president in the white House finally living out what Martin Luther King, Jr. fought and died for. I am 34 years old now and that dream is finally happening. By this time next year we may very well have a ‘Black President’ to lead this country out of its shams and broken dreams.As I listen to Barak Obama’s compelling speeches and see all of the inspiration that he sparks, it reminds me of a bad dating experience I had with a guy that I’ll call “sweet nothings”.Let me just tell you this man’s words were like soft creamy butter to my bread. They sounded good and tasted even better. I wanted to believe the lies so much that I ignored the big-bold flashing neon warning signs going off in my head that he was SO not the man for me. When you want a relationship to work you block out the many problems there may be. If I would have just pulled back and listened to those signs, I would have saved myself some heartache and pain.I truly believe we want a ‘Black President’ so much that we aren’t willing to really LISTEN and really SEE what may be right under our noses. Yes, I may sound more emotional and less political, but what is so wrong with Tavis Smiley or anyone else asking the really hard question that we may not want to hear, but need to be asked, “Is Barack Obama REALLY for the people or just speaking “sweet nothings” until he gets what he wants?”]]>
Love the Version of Hava Negillah! Nice to have seen Rabbi Juan back visiting his home!! Tequilla for Kiddush and Fejita's, Sounds Good, my only question is how does on have a spicy beef Fejita and still be Kosher [i thought they had cheese in them]! Anyway Rabbi Juan you have always been an inspiration to me, who has just found his Sephardic roots, from the time you and your wife were in our Shul, to now, till always!!
